Assurance of salvation / marks of a true believer

If you have truly repented of your sins and believed that Christ died as your substitute on the cross, then the Bible says that you have been born again or born into God’s family. Your sins have been forgiven. You now have a new nature and a new life.

“For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-12)

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” (John 10:27-29)

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:13-14)

"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 6:14)

"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Romans 8:13-14)

"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, 'Abba, Father'. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." (Romans 8:15-17)

"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." (2 Timothy 2:19)

Fruits of a real Christian from the Book of 1 John:

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 John 5:13) What are these things that prove you are a Christian?

1. A new manner of living, a lifestyle not patterned according to the moral darkness of this world (1 John 1:6-7)

2. A continuous desire to know God more and to continually do His will and His commands to us (1 John 2:3-6)

3. A genuine love for fellow believers and desiring their fellowship more than the fellowship of the world (1 John 2:9-11, 4:7-8)

4. A growing love for the things that God loves and growing hatred for the things God hates. Desiring not to follow and love the worldly system but rather to follow God (1 Joh 2:15-17)

5. Believes and adheres to the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ and to continue in obedience to Him (1 John 2:22-24; 4:2-3)

6. Does not and cannot continue to live in a lifestyle of sin (1 John 3:9-10)

7. A love and desire for the preaching of God’s Word (1 John 4:6)

In order to grow as a Christian, you must join a Bible-believing and Christ-honoring church. (Directory of churches: Philippines)
